St. Dominic's Fair Gdańsk 2026 (Jarmark Św. Dominika)

St. Dominic’s Fair — Jarmark Swietego Dominika — is one of the oldest continuously running trade fairs in Europe. It has taken place in Gdansk since 1260, when the Dominican order received a papal charter to hold a fair around the feast day of St. Dominic (4 August). For most of its history it was a major commercial event drawing merchants from across the Baltic region; today it has evolved into a vast open-air market and street festival that runs for over three weeks every summer and draws around five million visitors over the course of its run.

What the Fair Covers

The fair occupies the historic core of Gdansk: Dluga Street, Dlugi Targ (Long Market), the Green Gate area, and sections of the riverfront. More than 1,000 stalls are set up across this area, selling an enormous range of goods. You will find antiques and vintage items (furniture, ceramics, coins, maps, militaria), amber jewellery, folk crafts, handmade textiles, Polish ceramics, books, prints, and art. A dedicated area of the fair focuses on collectables and antiques, attracting serious buyers alongside casual browsers.

Street food is well represented: kielbasa, pierogi, langos, smoked fish from the Baltic, ice cream, fresh fruit, and a wide variety of grilled and fried snacks. Beer and cold drinks are available throughout. The fair also has an entertainment programme — outdoor concerts, circus performances, historical re-enactments, and children’s activities — running throughout the three weeks.

What to Buy

Amber is the most famous Gdansk souvenir and the fair is an excellent place to find genuine pieces at competitive prices, though quality varies enormously. Look for amber with clear provenance from Baltic sources; street-level vendors may sell synthetic or imported material. Dedicated amber shops in the Old Town (many of which also set up stalls at the fair) are generally more reliable for higher-value pieces.

Antique maps and old prints of Polish cities are a popular and portable purchase. Prices for quality antique prints start at around 50-150 PLN; older and rarer items cost significantly more.

Practical Information

Entry to the fair grounds is free. The fair runs daily from approximately 10:00 to 21:00, with some entertainment areas staying open later. Weekdays are significantly quieter than weekends; if you want to browse without crowds, aim for a Tuesday or Wednesday morning.

The historic centre of Gdansk is walkable from most central accommodation and well served by trams from the main train station. Gdansk Glowny is around 10 minutes on foot from Dluga Street. Parking in the centre is limited and not recommended during fair season.
