Where to Stay in Zamość: Hotels Near the Renaissance Old Town

Zamość is not a hotel city - it is a small Renaissance planned town of 65,000 people, and its accommodation scene reflects that. There are no large international hotel chains, no cluster of business hotels, and no resort strips. What it does have is a handful of well-positioned mid-range hotels, some atmospheric apartments inside the arcaded Old Town houses, and affordable guesthouses within easy reach of the Great Market Square. For most visitors, finding somewhere good to stay is easy; the challenge is booking early enough in summer.

Best Area to Stay

Stay as close to the Great Market Square as you can. The entire point of Zamość is its Renaissance urban environment - the market square, the arcaded townhouses, the cathedral, the fortification walks - and all of it is within a ten-minute stroll of the square. Staying here means you can step outside after dinner and have the UNESCO Old Town largely to yourself, which is one of the most memorable things about the city. Day visitors arrive mid-morning and leave by early evening; the square after 7 pm belongs to residents and overnight guests.

The streets immediately surrounding the square - ul. Rynek Wielki, ul. Staszica, ul. Ormiańska (Armenian Quarter), and ul. Zamenhoffa - are the most convenient locations. Beyond the inner fortification ring, accommodation becomes cheaper but the atmosphere is ordinary Polish town, which defeats the purpose of coming to Zamość.

Budget: Guesthouses and Basic Doubles (PLN 120–200 per night)

Zamość has no hostel with traditional dorm beds in the conventional sense, but budget accommodation exists in the form of small guesthouses (pensjonaty) and affordable doubles in older hotels.

Pensjonat Renesans on ul. Staszica, just off the Great Market Square, is one of the most frequently recommended budget options. Rooms are basic - clean, simply furnished, no frills - but the location puts you directly in the Old Town. Doubles from approximately PLN 140–180 per night as of 2026.

Dom Turysty PTTK (Polish Tourist Society guesthouse) near the inner fortification ring is the most traditional budget option. These PTTK properties exist across Poland as a legacy of the national walking tourism movement; they are functional rather than charming, but reliably clean and inexpensive. For self-catering, several apartment rentals in the Old Town townhouses appear on booking platforms. These vary considerably in quality - read recent reviews carefully - but the best ones are genuinely atmospheric, with original brick vaulting or Renaissance arcading visible from the windows. Prices from approximately PLN 150–200 per night for a studio or one-bedroom.

Mid-Range: Established Hotels (PLN 220–380 per night)

Hotel Orbis Zamojski is the most established mid-range hotel in the city and the default choice for visitors who want a reliable standard. It occupies a period building near the Great Market Square - location is good, rooms are comfortable if somewhat dated in décor, and the on-site restaurant is solid. Doubles from approximately PLN 260–340 per night as of 2026. This is the closest Zamość gets to a brand-name hotel.

Hotel Renesans (not to be confused with the guesthouse above) is a medium-sized hotel in the Old Town with better-maintained rooms than the Orbis. The building fits into the Renaissance streetscape and the staff are generally helpful with local information. Doubles from approximately PLN 240–320 per night as of 2026.

Hotel Senator sits just outside the main square and offers comfortable modern rooms in a renovated building. Slightly less atmospheric than the Renesans but often better value for the room quality. Doubles from approximately PLN 220–300 per night as of 2026.

All three mid-range options are within a five-minute walk of the Great Market Square. Parking is available at or near each - useful if you are arriving by car.

Splurge: Atmospheric Apartments and Boutique Rooms (PLN 350–500+ per night)

Zamość does not have a luxury hotel in the conventional sense - no five-star international property exists here. The splurge option is instead a well-appointed Old Town apartment or a boutique guesthouse room with original architectural features.

Several apartments in the arcaded townhouses directly on Rynek Wielki command premium prices for obvious reasons: staying in a 16th-century Renaissance loggia building, looking out over the finest urban square in eastern Poland, is a genuinely memorable experience. These are typically individually owned and managed; availability changes frequently. Search for “Rynek Wielki Zamość apartment” on Airbnb or Booking.com. Rates from approximately PLN 350–500 per night as of 2026 for a well-rated property.

If you are willing to drive 15 km, the Roztocze region has a small number of rural guesthouses in the surrounding countryside - appealing if you are combining Zamość with walking in Roztoczański National Park.

Practical Tips

Book early for summer. Zamość has limited accommodation overall, and the good Old Town options fill quickly in July and August. A Friday or Saturday night in peak season with less than two weeks’ notice can be difficult to arrange. Mid-week and shoulder season (May–June, September–October) are far easier.

Two nights is the right call. A single night is technically enough to see the main Old Town sights, but it leaves no time for the Roztocze villages or the experience of the town at dawn before the day visitors arrive. Two nights turns a hurried tick-box visit into an actually enjoyable trip.

Getting there. Zamość is approximately 90 km from Lublin - around 1.5 hours by direct bus (fares from approximately PLN 20–30 as of 2026) or 1.5 hours by car via the S17 and S12. There is no direct train. If you are driving, all central hotels have parking; street parking in the Old Town is restricted. The main PKS bus station is a short walk from the centre.

Check-in times. Smaller guesthouses often have flexible check-in but no 24-hour reception - confirm arrival time when booking, particularly if arriving late.
